GAIN POWER THROUGH KNOWLEDGE!

The 4th Annual Home Energy Seminar and Workshop, sponsored by Firelands Electric Cooperative, was held Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Ashland University Myers Convocation Center, with approximately 30 attendees and 20 vendors present. Firelands’ Energy Advisors explained the importance of a house's "envelope" -- the part of the house which separates the indoors from the outdoors, including the floor on the bottom level, the ceiling on the top level, the exterior walls and the doors and windows -- is the most important part of saving money in a home.

Ways to improve energy efficiency was the overall focus of the workshop.  Energy efficiency is the best investment someone can make in a house, and Firelands provided many different tips and tricks to keep a house efficient to save money.  Vendors showed what to look for when buying windows, insulation, light bulbs and other critical applications within the home.

The Home Energy Seminar & Workshop put the knowledge and control in the hands of consumers, with ways to reduce energy use and lower costs!  Home owners learned new ways to cut their energy use 25% or more with simple inexpensive DIY solutions! There were a variety of hands-on energy displays to empower consumers to make smarter energy choices, and energy experts were on-hand to answer questions.

This helpful workshop was open to Firelands members and the general public.  Attendees received a handy resource binder containing helpful energy efficient techniques and products, and were entered in a drawing for an array of home improvement and energy saving door prizes!
