Firelands is a member-owned electric cooperative, and anyone requesting service must have a valid membership. This can be done by calling, visiting our web site or coming into our office to make application for service. After completing the membership application a security deposit is required.

ELECTRIC SERVICE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
These forms can be filled out and printed from your computer, but MUST be signed and returned to Firelands Electric Cooperative at P.O. Box 32, New London, Ohio 44851.

To schedule an appointment with an Engineer at the building site:

  1. Contact the Operations Department at Firelands Electric Cooperative - (800) 533-8658.
  2. Have the following information available
    -- Address and location of new service
    -- Type of service requested, temporary or permanent (200, 320, 400 amp)
    -- Driveway entrance needs to be staked
  3. Set an appointment time to meet Firelands' engineer at the site (typically 5-10 business days).

Meeting with Engineer at the site:

  • Driveway entrance needs to be installed and accessible.
  • The house must be staked out as to the approximate location (minimum four corners).
  • Approximate square footage and type of house and building s (stick, modular, mobile home, barn, or other)
  • Approximate location of well or water system
  • Approximate location of septic system including tank, leach field and replacement area (this is determined by the Local Health Agency).
  • You and the engineer will have the temporary and/or the permanent services established when he leaves the site.
  • You will be given a checklist for your new service installation and a cost estimate sheet showing all construction charges to be paid.

Proceeding with your installation:

  • Establish membership with Firelands Electric Cooperative.
  • The right-of-way easement* form provided by Firelands needs to be completed and returned.
  • All construction costs associated with your installation must be paid in advance before the job will be scheduled.
  • If any tree removal or property grading is required, it must be completed prior to the installation of your electric service. Specifications will be taken care of during your appointment with the staking engineer.

We are a not-for-profit company dedicated to giving you the best service for the most reasonable cost, and we will work through any problems as quickly as possible to provide you with the service you deserve.
