Children of Members Scholarships - College and Career

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

In 2025, Firelands Electric Cooperative will award $9,750 in college scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who live in a home receiving its power from the co-op and who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2025. Selected finalists will be invited for a personal interview at Firelands’ office in New London on Monday, February 17, 2025.

 

Ten students will be awarded scholarships as follows:

 

  • First place: $1,800
  • Second place: $1,600
  • Third place: $1,400
  • Fourth place: $1,200
  • Fifth place: $1,000
  • Sixth place: $750
  • Two Honorable Mentions: $500 each
  • Two Judges’ Choice awards: $500 each

The first-place winner will also be eligible to compete for additional scholarships worth up to $4,600 from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives during the statewide competition in Columbus on April 16, 2025.

 

 

CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS

 

In 2025, Firelands Electric Cooperative will also award two $1,000 scholarships for those who plan to enroll in a career or vocational-based program. One $1,000 award will go to an outstanding high school senior who lives in a home receiving its power from the co-op and has a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. An additional $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to someone who lives in a home receiving its power from the co-op and graduated prior to June 2023.

 

These scholarships are intended for programs that will earn the recipient an associate degree or other certificate of completion beyond the high school level. Examples include, but are not limited to, dental hygiene, phlebotomy, nursing, vet tech, electrician, HVAC, plumbing, auto mechanics, welding, and machinist. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2025. Selected finalists will be invited for a personal interview at Firelands’ office in New London on Monday, February 17, 2025.

 

Applications for both the College and Career scholarships must be received in the Firelands Electric Cooperative office by 4 p.m. on January 17, 2025. They may be mailed, delivered, or emailed to:
