High school students: Would you like to see firsthand how electricity is generated?
Firelands Electric will be selecting up to 20 high school students to join us for a FREE, all-day trip to the Cardinal Power Plant on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Located in Brilliant, Ohio, Cardinal is one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in the world. The plant provides power to the members of 25 cooperatives across the state, including Firelands Electric. With the capacity to generate 1,800 megawatts of electricity, Cardinal powers over one million Ohioans!
Youth Day applicants DO NOT need to be Firelands Electric members.
To be eligible, students only have to attend one of the 17 high schools in our service territory. That’s it!
Filling out our short online application only takes a few minutes. Completed applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
Please note: This trip involves a 3-hour drive EACH WAY on one of two 12-passenger mini-buses and invovles some very winding roads. If you get carsick easily, you may want to reconsider applying.
